Information about Rote Island weather and seasons
Rote Island Seasons
Rote Island, part of Indonesia, experiences two primary seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.
Dry Season
April to November
The dry season in Rote spans from April to November, with the most favorable conditions from June to September. During this period, the island sees lower humidity levels and minimal rainfall, making it an ideal time for exploring the island. The temperatures feel slightly lower thanks to the consitent cooling tradewinds. The dry season is also known as the peak season for tourism due to the consistent good weather and surf conditions.
Rainy Season
December to March
The rainy season occurs from December to March. This period is characterized by higher humidity and frequent often heavy rainfall, which can affect travel plans and outdoor activities. However, visiting during the rainy season can offer a more budget-friendly experience and a chance to see the island in its lush, green state and with less visitors.
What’s the best season to visit Rote?
It kind of depends on what you want to experience and why you are traveling. If you want to surf T-Land all day everyday, the middle of the dry season is for you. If you want to surf some of Rote Islands best right handers, you will want to come early or late dry season when the winds are light and variable.
If you want quite empty beaches to yourself, the wet season has less people but you might have to dodge some rain showers, while the dry season sees the majority of the islands tourists visiting to explore.
